La serie de Música popular y tradicional colombiana es una realización de Egberto Bermúdez y Magdalena Pabón quienes con un equipo de colaboradores técnicos recopilaron los cantos y los sones región por región.
Puesto que las músicas que escucharemos no son mas que un adelanto mínimo de la tradición de pueblos y regiones sugerimos visitar y participar activamente en la construcción de ese acervo. No deje de asistir a la música hecha en sitio, es tal vez esa la única forma de alcanzar a entender algunos de los múltiples contextos sociales que encuentran expresión en la música, que siempre se hará.
En la actualidad, cada año en agosto, se celebra una fiesta a la que asisten músicos de toda la región del litoral, agrupaciones que aportan un matiz mas del negro y del indio. Es el Festival Petronio Alvarez de músicas del Pacífico que al igual que la marimba, es patrimonial.
